Insects In Amber Fossils Insects inside 20 Million years old amber fossils

A picture released on August 9, 2011 in Lima by the Peruvian Paleontological Meyer-Hönningen Museum of Chiclayo in northern Peru, shows detailed fossilized insect remains preserved in amber for over 23 million years, found in an excavation in the Santiago river basin, in the Amazon region (which borders Ecuador). According to Klaus Hönningen, the find consists of hundreds of pieces of the gemstone made from fossilized plant resin of up to 12cm containing various types of insects like Psocoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and spiders, belonging to the Neogene Era, early Miocene.
